Not completely sure actually, ghasts already seem to be a worthy opponent xD
But pvp would make nether even more dangerous, also when you are "safe" in your house :D

There will only be 1 entrance into the Nether, so you won't be building houses there.

The portal on the nether side will have a 'safe' area around it, once you step outside of that, pvp is on.

Your not allowed to build a shelter there? :o

Ghasts cannot destroy cobble, mossy cobble, smooth stone, obsidian, iron(?), and diamond(?) blocks.
I thought it was still like that, couldn't find it on the wiki so i'm not completely sure.
And otherwise you could still build it underground or in a wall + they cant see through glass so they wont shoot at you if you are in your house.

a PvP area somewhere would be good, but right at spawn good be a problem.

Uhm just to be sure, you mean PvP as in player vs player, which means players can attack eachother? Not mistaken with PvE (player vs environment).

If so then no thanks! Only a masochistic mind would even think of such a thing! :P I mean, the nether is already lethal. I had a sneak peak in the nether the other day (jack showed me) and there were tons of ghasts flying around! :O I even want to ask if its possible to reduce the amount of ghast with a mod orso. ;)

the only reason we're adding the nether is to challenge people,

"survival" in the current world isnt exactly hard, as zombies and stuff do hardly anything to people,
so the nether would be a good challenge, building yourself a base in their, fighting off pigzombies, ghasts, monsters, and now other players,

Lol you do make it sound good. And in WoW I also played on a PvP server so I know the thrill. ;) I was imagining working together by building paths between houses and placing strategic bunkers to fight against the mobs. Hmm how will we build in PvP :thinkingface: ;)
