Hi there :D

So, I looked around the world map, and we don't have a farm yet! So I decided to build one.
The farm will include all kinds of farmable stuff (excluding animals. :D):
WHEAT
SUGAR CANES
CACTI
MELONS
PUMPKINS
TREES

I wanted to build the farm at this forest near Citchen Itza (see picture below). I'll remove all the trees and build the farm then.
If anyone has ideas for making farm parts FULLY automated (not the cacti part, I already know how to automate it :D) or just wants to help, leave a reply on this post!

I think the picture explains itself. :D

Also thanks :) I'm online right now, but I still have to remove trees. And the ground will have a unified level; this will be a hard task, because I'm out of dirt. xD

I started removing some trees. :D

Below, I'll post a picture which will show you the progress.
Link for the world map (isn't important for you, but I'll need it, because I'll update the picture some times. http://awesomedave.co.uk/#layerId=LayerA&worldX=-315&worldY=0&worldZ=-728&zoom=5)

The basic part of the wheat farm is done now.
Screens:

The walls will be changed into wooden planks, and the stone part between the water (--> picture below) into grass/dirt.

And this is the plan which has to be realised.

Maybe I'll use it, but this will require loads of pistons and redstone (because the canes part will be as big as the wheat part) which I haven't got. If I use it, it will be a hard task to realise this...

The Wheat part is almost done!
I've built the house around it; now the farming part itself and the "receiving" part is missing.
Jack, can you please change the farming part into grass and the walls of it into wooden planks? Can you please change my farm area/region in a "no mob spawn region" like the maze is? This would be very very helpful. :)

So!
hbmann and me finished the wheat and canes part.
The new plan for the farm area:

I'll do the other parts first, then the roads will be needed. :D

The roads are built now, and I don't need them worldguarded.
The farm is nearly finished; only some bits are on hbmann's and my to-do-list.
Here's a picture which shows the current progress:

The mod I've used to get this map (from the picture above) is Rei's Minimap v_2.3. If you want to download it, do it here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/482147-18119pre3oct07-reis-minimap-v23/ You will need ModLoader.

Post subject:  Re: New project: Giant farm

The farm is now finished. But there are still some "basic" modifications to do; and I need your help for this, Jack.
The farm will be public, so everyone should be able to put canes/wheat seeds/melon seeds/with the 1.9 update pumpkin seeds on the allocated places for each of those groups. Can you or a mod please define public regions? The places are marked with signs. But, please only the farm grounds! Noone should be able to grief all the hard work which hbmann and I did.
Next thing: mobs.
As you did it with iainJ's maze and the spawn castle, mobs don't spawn there. This would be useful for the farm too, because all kinds of mobs are destroying the whole farmable grounds. Please put a fence around the farm, so no mob is able to enter the farm area.

Last thing: animal farm.
Duskie stroke me on the idea to build an animal farm, because with the 1.9 update, mobs aren't spawnable anymore.
I want to extend the farm area then, because I'll build farm areas for:
chickens
cows
sheep
pigs

Below, I'll attach a picture to show you which area I would like to use for the animal farm.
The needed surface level of this area will be LEVEL 68.

Can you do those favours for me, Jack? :)
